Acrylic Paintings

Reminiscence

Medium: Acrylic paint on canvas.

Dimensions: 30 Ñ… 30 inches

Artwork Statement: This portrait painting of my great-grandmother brings out the interlinked concepts of memories and remembrance. Inspired by the ‘Arnolfini Portrait’, this portrait is placed to sit in the lens of a camera. My artwork ‘22 Sentiments’ is a primary source of inspiration, specifically, the eye pattern in that work and the use of a camera lens in this work, collectively they both act as camera apertures. My great-grandmother's birthdate and death date on the lens of the camera signify her identity.

Self Distortion

Medium: Acrylic paint on canvas.

Dimensions: 8 Ñ… 12 inches

Artwork Statement: A self-portrait with a distorted facial shape through the use of cracked mirrors. The cracked mirror symbolizes the broken pieces in her life, representing a part of her reality. The inspiration for this artwork is the lyrics of an Indian song “Matlabi Yariyaan”, sung by an Indian singer, Neha Kakkar. The color palette and style in the painting were inspired by one of my portrait photographs ‘Ablaze Within’, in which I created visual effects of a night-vision thermal camera.

Hysterical Pool

Medium: Acrylic painting on wood.

Dimensions: 11 Ñ… 16 inches

Artwork Statement:  Using acrylics on a wooden surface along with a grisaille technique complimented the spirling design as an illusionary effect. This work portrays a girl in tears, almost visualized as if she is drowning in a “sea of emotions”. The use of a two-toned color palette delivers a translucent finish against the grey-scaled monochromatic underpainting, whilst conveying the use of blue as water and brown as human skin.

Happiness X Melancholy

Medium: Acrylic paint & paint markers on canvas

Dimensions: 16 Ñ… 24 , 16 Ñ… 24 inches

Artwork Statement: Inspired by a contemporary artist, Gonkar Gyatso’s use of visual motifs in these self-portraitures expresses two contradicting emotions against each other, Happiness and Melancholy. The left painting is the positive aspect of the work consisting of bright colours and cheerful stickers. Whereas, the right side painting reflects the negative side through the use of darker tones and depressful stickers. The colorful use of iconography creates a dense mass of imagery, further defining its complexity.

Men Molestation

Medium: Acrylic paint on canvas

Dimensions: 30 Ñ… 40 inches

Artwork Statement: This work creates awareness of men facing sexual abuse recognizes it as a global issue, and objects to the stereotypical society to break its ideologies of women and children facing harassment solely. The palette knife strokes depict a man’s distortion and entrapment within a negative bubble. As he walks into a tunnel’s light, his blood and pain disappear, rebirthing him as an innocent man. The blue glitch signifies this destruction, the texts forcing society to take action against this abuse.
